The Rivers collection was developed in collaboration with artist Anush Ghukasyan through a shared exploration of materials, techniques, and historical references. Developed between 2022 and 2023, the collection evolved through encounters and exchanges with artisans in Goris, Amasia, and Yerevan, whose knowledge and practices became part of its development.
Using the familiar blue that appears throughout her ceramic practice, Anush draws azure lines across a canvas of natural wool, whose warm, earthy tones evoke sun-dried grass and open fields. The blue lines move across this imagined landscape like rivers, introducing a vivid presence while leaving the surrounding ground largely untouched.
The collection extends from handwoven and hand-embroidered wool blankets into ceramic objects. Their solid, rounded forms and textured surfaces echo, in a different material, the tactile qualities of wool. Together, the textiles and ceramics offer different interpretations of the same landscape, moving between its vastness and intimacy, softness and solidity, earth and water.
Anush Ghukasyan is a Yerevan-based contemporary artist working across graphic arts, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, video, and site-specific installation.
Moving freely between materials and mediums, her work often develops through unexpected and playful encounters between forms, ideas, and contexts. Repetition and accentuated contrasts are recurring elements of her visual language, creating works that shift between the familiar and the surprising.
