The blankets are hand-woven using 100% wool weft and 100% cotton warp and detailed with fringed edges on the short sides. The wool used for the blankets is of natural light beige and dark brown colours.
The blanket were designed by the artist Gohar Martirosyan. She was born in Gyumri but left when she was a child. She later came back to visit the city. She discovered the abandoned Soviet textile factory, and the enormous derelict building shocked her beyond belief. Gohar finds that we have always used fabric, including clothes or carpets, to tell each other stories and build a common culture. When working on the design of the blankets to be created in her home region of Armenia, she felt her hometown calling her back, and the blankets tell a story of reconnection.
The blankets can be used both as an element of decoration and as a cover.
